A cross-section of a cell membrane which is a type of membrane that is responsible for the formation of a membrane. The image is divided into two parts. On the left side of the image there is a diagram that shows the structure of the membrane with the top part showing the tight junction and the bottom part showing a gap junction. The gap junction is made up of two blue spheres one on each side connected by red and green lines. The red lines represent the membrane's structure while the green lines represent its structure. In the center of the diagram there are two red lines that represent the gap junction which acts as a pathway between the two spheres. The blue lines represent a pathway that leads to the membrane and the red line represents the pathway. The pathways are connected by green and red lines which represent the pathways that lead to the cells. The diagram also shows a black and white image of the same membrane but with a larger image on the right side which appears to be a microscopic view of the surface of the cell membrane.
